Thanks for posting, Lewis. Im reading the new James P Johnson biography. Selfishly, I wish I could talk to David about this. I remember Eubie Blake have some Rutgers interactions, but did not know about Willie the Lion Smith having visited the campuses. Thanks again. Jeff

Yes, Dave Cayer was a great guy and I do think he was involved in arranging for those Eubie Blake visits as well. Scott Brown, another graduate of our M.A. program in jazz history, recently published a completely new and expanded edition of his James P Johnson bio--I'm glad you have it. It's at:
