Dear Lewis, very nice work on Billie today, and pleasant to read. I specially love this phrase

"It is bizarre to see that the same writers and teachers who falsely claim that Billie did not write her memoir, then proceed to quote from it as though it is proven truth."

Yes, that is common and it drives me crazy. THANK YOU JACQUES!

Billie had music in her paternal bloodline, clearly.

Absolutely. THANKS DAVID!

Thanks for the research. Love Billie and her music. Separating myth from fact is helpful.

Interesting piece, Lewis. The fact that he was in Fletcher Henderson’s outfit for as long as he was would indicate he was clearly no slouch at his instrument, if fellow band alumnus Louis Armstrong is any indication! (Though obviously Satchmo left a few years prior.) Looking forward to part 2!

Yes--Paying subscribers such as yourself will get a generous selection of his recordings as a bonus with Part Two! THANK YOU CHRIS!

Sweet! Can’t wait!

Lewis, thank you for the documents. I don't understand how you can be certain about Billie Holiday's father wanting to play the bugle or his exposure to a chemical that harmed his lungs.

All this is in the Army records that I posted. THANK YOU GWENDOLYN
