Thanks Dave--See below--not a chair, but there's a famous one on Old Folks. I've also been told about a car horn honking, a door slamming, and other things but when I checked out the recordings in question, those sounds were not there. In any case this Monk one has never been noted before!

Miles Never played sitting down, so it can't be his chair, but it sounds to me like maybe he adjusted the mike or music stand just then, especially because he stops playing at the same time. There's that squeak that has always sounded to me like Miles leaning back in his chair about 1:14 into Old Folks.
