Good thought, but Hasaan was really only known locally around Philly during Taylor’s formative years. (By the early 60s Hasaan sometimes played in NYC.) in any case, Taylor always said his style came from applying Monk and Duke and taking them further out, rather than starting with way out sources like modern classical music—or Hasaan. Did Cecil Taylor know this guy and was he an influence? Perhaps unanswerable and admittedly speculative. Amazing playing.
