Hello Friends, You can read the award-winning article now at the link provided below. Also please know that I will very soon be posting it here, in installments, in a slightly expanded version. This is not my research on Billie’s improvisations, which I’ve already been posting, nor any of my other Billie research yet to come. The article that won the award is about the Billie Holiday movie starring Andra Day—and in it I prove beyond a doubt that just about everything in that film is totally and shamefully false.
"A better contribution to Black Lives Matter would be a motion picture that shows the true brilliance of Billie Holiday the musician, a brilliance that is ignored by this irresponsible film."
Agreed. Or a film devoted to the 20th century poverty of black America that forced Holiday out of school at 11 years old and into prostitution at the age of 15. Sadly, there would be no need for embellishment or fiction.
Many congratulations Lewis!
And richly deserved. Your forensic, informative and entertainingly-written research is an inspiration to many fellow jazz scribes!
You are too kind, friend! I'm a fan of your Miles work too, of course.
congrats!
Thanks Bob! Let's schedule a "catch-up" call or Zoom!
sure, when's a good time for you?
Will email you.

Exactly.
