Oscar Peterson is sometimes said to have assumed the Tatum mantle. It is no insult to Oscar to hear that what mainly separated the two (both had astonishing technical pianistic skill) was this harmonically advanced and adventurous aspect of Tatum.
First let me say how much I appreciated the work and research you put into this. I find it amazing how many musicians he has influenced, especially Oscar Peterson. Just the technique alone is way beyond what anyone was doing in the time period.
